Please be advised Te Komiti Nui o Ngāti Whakaue, in conjunction with Chris Scoggins, Chief UAV Pilot of Interpine Group Ltd, will be undertaking a drone fly over of Ngāti Whakaue traditional rohe, which we plan to undertake weather dependent during August.

The purpose of this filming is to have a visual record that informs and reminds the Crown of the significant contribution Ngāti Whakaue and others made to our city and communities.

The general flight path is from:

  • Ngongotahā maunga
  • west to Tihiotonga
  • east south east over Waipa and the Whakarewarewa forest including Te Puia
    and the Whakarewarewa thermal valley
  • through SCION and the Redwood forest park
  • through to the Ngāti Whakaue Tribal Lands blocks
  • Ōwhatiura land blocks
  • Puketāwhero Park
  • looking out to Mokoia Island
  • through Ngāpuna
  • heading towards Rotorua central, including Pukeroa hill & Kuirau

From there, we expect to fly-over the whole of the original Pukeroa Oruawhata land block, including Arikikapakapa, that makes up the Rotorua township. Including flying through to the Government Gardens, incorporating those lands in the original Sanatorium reserve, that show Education Endowment lands from the Sudima up Eruera St, sites of significance to Ngāti Whakaue – including Pukeroa Hill, Kuirau Park, Te Koura Mawhitiwhiti (the lake front), Te Koutu, Kawaha Point, Kauae urupa, Ngongotahā village.

Given that the areas of interest are situated within an urban environment and lie within a primary flight path zone, TKN has ensured full compliance with Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) regulations.
