Ngati Whakaue iwi, hapu and whanau are being encouraged to have input into what a “Mauri Assessment Model” means to us as kaitiaki of our environment and natural resources e.g. geothermal, lakes, and waterways. To assist your thinking and views on how we assess the mauri of our natural resources and how we could develop a model or framework to measure the changes in the mauri, we have attached is a copy of a Literature Review Report on the current cultural monitoring models and environmental health indexes used by iwi across Aotearoa. The development of these types of cultural monitoring tools are to assist Iwi and Councils to work together and make collective resource management decisions at a local and regional level. The Hiihiri team are undertaking a series of Iwi and hapu workshop / interviews on behalf of the Bay of Plenty Regional Council across the region to help understand iwi views of Mauri.
For those interested in participating in this korero, a hui will be held on Thursday 25 May at: Hurungaterangi Marae, 5:30 -6:30pm.
