
Te Maru o Kaituna River Authority members include Tapuika Iwi Authority Trust, Te Tāhuhu o Tawakeheimoa Trust, Te Kapu o Waitaha, Te Pumautanga o Te Arawa Trust, Bay of Plenty Regional Council, the Rotorua Lakes Council, the Tauranga City Council, and the Western Bay of Plenty District Council. Ngati Whakaue are currently observers on Te Maru o Kaituna until such time as membership for Ngati Whakaue may be formalised through Treaty of Waitangi settlement legislation.
Their purpose is to promote the restoration, protection and enhancement of the environmental, cultural and spiritual health well-being of the Kaituna River. One of their key functions is to develop and approve the Kaituna River Document.
