Thank you to all those who attended the Ordinary General Meeting on Sunday 21 December at Te Papaiouru Marae.
At that hui, Te Komiti Nui presented on the process to appoint the four Negotiators: Larissa Wharepouri, Hamuera Mitchell, John Kahukiwa and Paora Tapsell.
The Negotiators gave presentations, answered questions and listened to korero from Wai Claimants and whanau. The Negotiators also tabled a presentation which outlined key principles for the Ngati Whakaue comprehensive settlement.
Next steps for the settlement negotiations
- Negotiators will meet with Wai Claimants/whanau regarding their claim in the context of the comprehensive settlement;
- Negotiators, with oversight from the Board, will continue to work to on developing a settlement package with Minister Finlayson, Chief Crown Negotiator Rick Barker, and the Office of Treaty Settlements officials;
- The Board will update Ngati Whakaue members along the way.
If you have any questions please contact us and our staff will assist you.
It is important that Ngati Whakaue members be registered on the Komiti Nui Tribal database. This allows members to vote on whether or not to accept the settlement package once it is negotiated.
If you are unsure whether you are registered, please get in contact with Kerri Anne. She can help make registration an easy process for you and your whanau.
